The Senate has killed the Obamacare repeal bill and everyone on Twitter is praising one guy, John McCain, who returned to Washington early this week after a diagnosis of brain cancer. McCain was instrumental in voting against the so-called "skinny repeal" proposal, a bill which would have left 16 million additional people without health care and driven premiums up by 20% per annum. John McCain just contradicted his own healthcare vote in a speech In a video widely shared on Twitter, the senator and military veteran is depicted as he approaches the front of the Senate chamber, holds the right palm face down then does a thumbs-down as he just says "No", then walks away amidst Democrat applauses and Republicans' gasps: Naturally, McCain was not alone in voting down the repeal — Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joined the Democrats in the final result 51-49 — but people couldn't help expressing joyful support to the former presidential candidate: Me seeing McCain's vote. pic.twitter.com/tUiF8rrlqJ — pat muldowney (@patmuldowney) July 28, 2017 McCain!!!!!!!!!!!!! — Zach Braff (@zachbraff) July 28, 2017 Senator John McCain is a man of his word and a true hero. "Have you decided how you'll vote?" press corps. "Yes," Sen. John McCain. "How?" "Wait for the show." — Matt Laslo (@MattLaslo) July 28, 2017 The navy veteran delivered a huge blow to Trump, who mocked him as "not a war hero" during the 2016 campaign. He later explained his decision with a statement saying the "skinny repeal" failed short of their promises: Skinny repeal fell short because it fell short of our promise to repeal & replace Obamacare w/ meaningful reform https://t.co/tZISIvccOO — John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) July 28, 2017 WATCH: 'World's saddest polar bear' gets offered new home in U.K.
